Welcome to our school website. St Joseph's is a happy and successful Catholic school, where pupils feel safe and they are helped to thrive.
At St Joseph's Catholic Primary School we encourage our children and each other to reflect on the question asked by Pope Benedict XVI, ‘What kind of person would you really like to be?’
Jesus is at the centre of our mission statement: Jesus in our hearts, in our minds, in our living, in our learning. This question therefore allows us to think about what kind of person God wants us to be, as well as what virtues or qualities we need to grow in order to become that person. This is where the Pupil Profile supports everyone’s journey within the school to become that person. It is made up of eight Virtue Pairs of what makes a good person, based on Jesus’ teaching. By striving to show these St Joseph’s Pupil Profile Virtues, we are fulfilling the answer to Pope Benedict XVI’s very important and meaningful question.
Here are the virtue pairs:
Each half term classes each choose a way of showing what the children understand about each virtue pair. For example, through art, drama or by creating a Pupil Profile Journey Power Point.
Each class has a Pupil Profile Tree where the children respond to the meaning of the virtue pairs and show how they live this quality in their day to day lives.
From September 2024, classes have begun to show their journey through a floor book.
Have a look and enjoy the journey our children are on to becoming the best possible version of themselves.

attentive to their experience and to their vocation;
and discerning about the choices they make and the effects of those choices.
To be ATTENTIVE means that we take the time to NOTICE the big and small things in our lives, each day. We NOTICE how others respond to what we do and say. We PAY ATTENTION and LISTEN to God and others when they are speaking to us.
To be DISCERNING means that we are able to choose better what is good for us and for others. It helps us to choose God’s will for us. It helps us to become the person God has called us to be.

Autumn 1 (2022-2023 and Spring 1 2023 - 2024) - Compassionate and Loving
Pupils in St Joseph’s RC Primary School are growing to be . . .
. . . compassionate towards others, near and far, especially the less fortunate; and loving by their just actions and forgiving words.
To be COMPASSIONATE is to not only to CARE about someone else but to be moved to DO SOMETHING to help them.
To be LOVING is to be kind, not only to our friends but to those we find difficult as well.
If we are COMPASSIONATE and LOVING, we show we are concerned about others. We are sympathetic to others. We care about others. We forgive others and we try to do something to help them.

Pupils in St Joseph’s RC Primary School are growing to be . . .
…..faith-filled in their beliefs and hopeful for the future.
To be FAITH-FILLED is to have FAITH in myself, in others and in God.
To have faith that God has chosen me. He has given me talents and skills to do something great for Him.
To have faith that my friends, my family and the community I live in, will support me, help me and encourage me.
To have faith that God’s way is my way. God’s way is the way I should go. When I do His will, I will be happy and the person God wants me to be.
This leads me to be HOPEFUL and courageous for the future.
God has promised to be with us always. He gave us His Son Jesus, to teach us and to show us the way. God wants us to be happy and to have life to the full!

Spring 1 (2022-2023) and Summer 1 (2023 - 2024) - Eloquent and Truthful
Pupils in St Joseph’s RC Primary School are growing to be . . .
. . . eloquent and truthful in what they say of themselves, the relations between people, and the world.
To be eloquent in the way in which we speak to each other and truthful in our words, actions, to the Gospel and to ourselves.
Eloquence is the ability to speak or write fluently, persuasively and appropriately. We aim to give our children the language to ask questions, express emotions, speak beliefs, talk about matters of faith and hope, debate points of view, and engage in conversation. Eloquence isn’t limited to speaking and writing. We can express ourselves in other ways like music, drama, painting or dance. We should use our creative gifts to say things in a way that is interesting, truthful, memorable and faithful.
God wants us to be truthful in all we do. Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life’, so being honest and truthful means we are following in his footsteps and living life the way God wants us to. Being truthful is being faithful to ourselves and to Jesus. We should stand up for the truth.

Spring 2 (2022-2023) and Summer 2 (2023 -2024) - Learned and Wise
Pupils in St Joseph’s RC Primary School are growing to be . . .
Learned, finding God in all things; and wise in the ways they use their learning for the common good.
When we are LEARNED we find God in all things. We learn about and understand the world he created. We learn about, understand and share in the different ways and cultures of people. We learn that our talents are given to us for the good of all. We learn and understand that the greatest gift of all is LOVE.
When we are WISE we listen to God, hear his Word and make decisions that share his love with all.
To be educated is to be learned – to know about God’s creation and about people who are part of it. But facts and skills are of little value unless we have wisdom also – the ability to see what is important and what is not.
